Although I chose a career in the Financial Sector I have been involved in photography since my teenage years and as my mother once said "if it were not for Des, there would be no record of family events". A few decades later, having left the City and purchased a Nikon Digital SLR, I experienced a renewed enthusiasm of and appreciation for photography.
In 2008, I embarked on a diploma in Photography and Digital Imaging at Richmond Adult College.
As a result, I have created this website as a platform to exhibit some of my favourite images and to document my own personal experiences, to capture scenes and events as I see them and to share with others the beauty and diversity of my work.
Under projects, I have included a series of photographs entitled “Interior Life” which was the research theme for my diploma.
Interior Life depicts the quirky world of a suburban academic. Behind the net curtains it reveals a cluttered profusion of images and objects, the juxtaposition of the mundane with the bizarre.
My fascination with the unconventional and eccentric inspired me to document my subject’s private space.
The outcome is a contrast between the shabby chic of Andrew Bush's Bonnettstown Hall, the decayed Molly Keane-like world of the fading Anglo-Irish gentry and the abandoned imagery of the Irish peasantry captured by David Creedon's "Ghosts of the faithful Departed".
However, more recent projects have related to conventional domestic interiors to assist with clients' marketing and advertising campaigns.
As the images of other photographers have inspired me to explore other aspects of photography, I hope my own contributions will inspire others to do the same.
Photography is my true passion. I enjoy nothing more than to express myself through captured views of everyday life. There are so many things we pass by everyday yet never see, and it is much more than the superficial view but rather the depth, feeling and pure beauty of an object or being. That is what I am hoping these pictures pass along to you.
Best Regards.
